Ben Frost (AUS): FEAR31.03. – 31.05.2016

Der Maler und Streetart Künstler Ben Frost gestaltete während seines einmonatigen Aufenthaltes als Artist-in-Residence im Q21 / MuseumsQuartier Wien ein Panel für die STREET ART PASSAGE. Frost präsentiert eine medien- und werbekritische Position. Subversiv platziert er Symbole, Logos und Figuren auf alltäglichem Verpackungsmaterial. Aus Mainstream-Ikonographie entsteht eine visuell provokative Welt.

Seit 2011 nutzt Ben Frost Produktkartons der Pharma-Industrie, von Süßwarenherstellern oder jene von Frühstücksflocken als Leinwand und kombiniert deren Design mit Pop-Art Ästhetik, verspielt kindlichen Comic Figuren aber auch sexuell geladenen oder gewalttätigen Motiven.

Die kontroverse Bildwelt zwingt den/die BetrachterIn seine/ihre heiß geliebten Konsum-Ikonen zu hinterfragen und in neue Relationen zu stellen.

During his month-long residency in Vienna the controversial painter and street artist Ben Frost designed the panel for the STREET ART PASSAGE, critiquing our media-obsessed society and the loss of innocence through advertising.

Ben’s work subverts logos, icons and characters from popular culture and re-presents them in startling and often confronting new ways. Starting to do so in 2011 the artist confronts the conjoined twins of capitalism and consumerism with striking compositions of Pop-Art aesthetics, playful characters of childhood cartoons, sex and violence. By remixing mainstream iconography, he creates a visual framework that is bold, confronting and often provocative.
